North Meets Heart – Building European Bridges

Belgium, 17.-19. November 2026

Deadline for applications: 31.December 2025

The idea

This project brings teachers from Schleswig-Holstein’s Europaschulen to Belgium for a three-day exchange, allowing them to share teaching practices, observe lessons and collaborate with Belgian schools. It aims to foster European cooperation, professional development, and intercultural understanding.

Why this project might be interesting for your school

This project offers your school meaningful educational and institutional benefits with minimal effort, allowing students and staff to engage in enriching experiences that leave a lasting impact.

  • European cooperation and internationalisation
The project strengthens European networks and supports the school’s internationalisation strategy. Meeting colleagues from Schleswig-Holstein fosters intercultural understanding and reflects the European dimension of education.
  • Exchange of innovative teaching practices
Teachers from other countries can bring valuable perspectives on topics such as differentiation, digital learning, and vocational education. In return, Belgian schools can share their expertise in areas like multilingualism, flexible curricula, and autonomous teaching methods. A pre-filled questionnaire will help the organisers match schools effectively.
  • Professional development and reflection
Hosting foreign teachers offers an opportunity for educators to reflect on their own practices, exchange ideas, and engage in professional dialogue.
  • School profile and networking
Participation in international cooperation enhances the school’s reputation as an open, modern, and European-minded institution. It can also lay the foundation for future student exchanges or joint projects.
  • Financial and organisational advantages
As the project is supported by Erasmus+, no financial effort for the Belgian school is necessary, while the pedagogical benefits are significant.

What are “Europaschulen” in Schleswig-Holstein?
In Schleswig-Holstein, schools have the opportunity to be recognised with the “Europaschule” (European School) certificate for their outstanding work in European education since 1996.
These schools—ranging from grammar schools and comprehensive schools to vocational schools and special needs centers—are driven by dedicated and professional teachers. They inspire students to explore new perspectives, engage in international contexts, and actively help shape Europe’s future. Currently, 54 schools in Schleswig-Holstein hold the Europaschule certificate, and they are part of a network that fosters collaboration, exchange, and mutual support. Schools share best practices, access training opportunities, and receive support for Europe-related projects.

In 2026, they will celebrate 30 years of Europaschulen by further strengthening their connections at the heart of Europe, expanding partnerships and collaborations that enrich learning experiences and inspire both students and educators.

Teachers from these 54 Europaschulen (two per school) will visit Belgium for three exciting days (17–19 November 2026) to observe, exchange ideas, and collaborate in different Belgian school.

How is it organised?
All accommodation, transportation, and meals, including the accompanying program are fully arranged by MBWFK, the ministry of Education in Schleswig-Holstein. The visit is supported by Erasmus+, so there is no financial burden for Belgian schools—participation is simple and hassle-free!

How are teachers matched?
Visiting teachers complete a short survey beforehand to indicate their interests, ensuring a perfect match with your school and making the exchange meaningful for everyone.

Why participate?
This unique opportunity aims to strengthen connections at the heart of Europe, building lasting partnerships and creating enriching experiences for students and teachers alike.

How to be involved in this project?
Belgian host schools are invited to welcome teachers from Schleswig-Holstein for a three-day visit. We kindly ask that you provide access to your school and opportunities for the visiting teachers to engage in conversations and exchange ideas with your staff. All arrangements for accommodation, transportation, and meals will be organized by the MBWFK, so participation involves minimal effort for your school. Please note that this offer is strictly limited to European Schools in Schleswig-Holstein and Belgian schools.

How to proceed?
We warmly invite you to register via this link by 31. December 2025 and share which topics you are most interested in exploring during the visit. This will help us create the most inspiring and meaningful matches between schools.
